Blazing Sadlles raise £32,000 cycling from Manchester to Gibraltar
A team of firefighters from Greater Manchester calling themselves the ‘Blazing Saddles’ raised £32,000 for charity by cycling from the UK to Gibraltar.
The Blazing Saddles travelled from Gibraltar Street in Oldham, Manchester, to Casemates Square in just 15 days.
The team of 13 riders travelled 1,700 miles from Oldham to Portsmouth and then on ferry to Le Havre, France, and through Spain to Gibraltar.
The Blazing Saddles are raising funds for Mind, Cyclists Fighting Cancer, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity (Sands) and the Fire Fighters Charity.
A team of local cyclists including the Chief Fire Officer met with the ‘Blazing Saddles’ at Jimena before heading to Gibraltar.
They were met at the frontier by a Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service fire tender which accompanied the group to Casemates, where they were welcomed to Gibraltar by the Governor, Lieutenant General Edward Davis.
