Campaigners urge MPs to provide training for tradesmen

A group of individuals led a demonstration outside Parliament yesterday afternoon calling for high quality apprenticeships.

The group, led by Joe Gingell, handed a message to Government and Opposition MPs as they made their way into Parliament, calling for urgent steps to be taken to ensure that youngsters who wish to become fully-fledged tradesmen are provided with the necessary training facilities.

The message highlights that there are many untrained youngsters who cannot be employed as tradesmen because they do not possess the required skills, qualifications and experience.

“We are not happy with the method of training nowadays,” Mr Gingell told the Chronicle.

“We want youngsters to go through a system that at the end of the period of training you have a qualified and properly trained and competent tradesman.”
