End of an era
Scaffolding was erected around the façade of the Queen’s Cinema yesterday as demolition works appeared to be set in progress.
The Government plans to demolish the theatre and use the site for temporary parking before developing the land in the future.
It explained that the building had little heritage value and insisted that it made more sense to house the theatre elsewhere.
But the GSD has slammed the decision to begin demolition works just “weeks away” from an election. The party had vowed to retain the façade, refurbish the building and save the site for arts and culture if elected to Government.
