ERG takes satirical swipe at Sacramento
The Equality Rights Group yesterday “politically cartooned” Government Minister Samantha Sacramento by awarding her three of their new “sour lemon” awards for her “less than positive contributions” this past year.
Two new awards - the ‘sour lemon’ and the ‘nice strawberry’ - were introduced by the ERG and featured at the conclusion of the Independent Civil Society Awards yesterday.
“The strawberry and sour lemon awards 2016 is an ERG initiative,” said ERG Chairman Felix Alvarez, adding that the aim of the awards are threefold.
“To recognise positive contributions from individuals or organisations outside of independent civil society in the current year; to recognise less than positive contributions and to encourage constructive openness both politically, socially and culturally,” he said.
“We see no reason why Gibraltar should lack a culture of political satire, we see no reason why Gibraltar has forgotten its legacy of political cartooning,” Mr Alvarez said.
Ms Sacramento was singled out by the Group for failing to introduce the Disability Act 2015 – a 2011 GSLP/Liberal manifesto commitment.
“Five years later and we still do not have this,” Mr Alvarez lamented.
