Feetham bullish on GSD’s long-term future

The GSD is poised to hold a leadership election in February and remains in bullish form despite the bruising result of the last general election, party leader Daniel Feetham has told the Chronicle.

The leadership election is routine and no one is expected to challenge Mr Feetham, who confirmed that he would be standing for another four-year term.

“I'm not going to speculate as to whether there will or won't be a leadership challenge, but I would welcome one,” he said.

“In democracies, it's good to have a leadership challenge so that people can make up their minds in terms of what are the different visions, views or agendas for the next four years.”

“But I think that I am the best person to lead the GSD and that I would be doing a huge disservice to my party by stepping aside at the present moment.”

The closing date for nominations for GSD leader is February 14, with the election itself to be held on February 29. Party members will account for 60% of the votes, with the balance left to the executive of the party.
