GFRS tackles blaze in Bayside construction site

The Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service [GFRS] has despatched 12 firefighters and three appliances to a large fire in a building under construction in the area of the Sundial roundabout.

Flames could be seen at the top of the One Bayside building, billowing thick black smoke as firefighters moved in to tackle the blaze.

The fire is believed to have started just after 8pm but there was no immediate information as to what caused it.

A spokesperson for the Royal Gibraltar police said there were no reports of injuries.

The GFRS confirmed on its social media at 8.19pm that its crews had been despatched to the scene.

The Airport Fire and Rescue Service also despatched assets to the area in support of the GFRS.

“Residents downwind of the incident advised to close all windows,” it said.

Traffic restrictions and diversions are in place and people are asked to avoid the area.
