2019 recipients of Gibraltar Medallions of Honour and Distinction announced

The Gibraltar Parliament unanimously passed a motion this morning for this year’s Gibraltar Medallion of Honour and Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction awards.

Recipients of the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour include Karel Mark Chichon for his services to culture outside Gibraltar and having excelled outside Gibraltar in his field of music as a conductor.

Karen Prescott was awarded the Medallion of Honour in recognition of her work as the first Gibraltarian female judge, Louis Triay, QC, was awarded the medallion for services to politics, the law and sailing.

Elisa Sheriff, a pro-Gibraltar campaigner in London in the 1960s who stood for election to the House of Commons against then Foreign Secretary Michael Stewart to promote Gibraltar's cause, has been awarded the Medallion of Honour posthumously for public service.

The list of recipients of the Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction was also announced, and includes the Chronicle's Alice Mascarenhas and Johnny Bugeja, as well as the director of Gibraltar Chronicle (Printing) Ltd, Francis Sheriff.
