GPF condemns 'inaccurate' statements

The Gibraltar Police Federation has condemned the recent inaccurate statements made in the Spanish media, and by the Spanish Foreign Ministry accusing members of the Royal Gibraltar Police Marine Section of “dangerous and irresponsible navigation”.

This is palpably untrue and it is clear to the Federation that they are misinformed, the GPF said in a statement.

The Federation said it welcomes the statements made by the Gibraltar Government, the UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the RGP in this regard and echoes these views.

“Although the Federation embraces good working relationships with all law enforcement agencies, it remains ever mindful of its members’ welfare, and calls on its Guardia Civil and SVA counterparts to pursue a policy of mutual respect underpinned by true and meaningful communication in order to uphold the law, and in order to work safely together.”

The Federation added that it will contact its colleagues in the European Confederation of Police (EuroCOP) regarding this matter in order to uphold its members’ rights.
