GSD attacks Govt ‘dementia smokescreen’
The GSD has accused the Minister for Health, Dr John Cortes, of creating a ‘smokescreen’ over the ‘failure’ to open the Dementia Care facilities on time.
In a statement the Opposition accused Dr Cortes of changing his storyline from ‘it’s a complex project’ to “Government will not pay over the odds”
Shadow Minister for Public Finance Roy Clinton MP said: “It beggars belief that Dr Cortes continues to try to create the impression that all is going to plan in respect of the Dementia Care Facilities.”
“A document has only recently come to light that suggests that proposals for the provision of Dementia Residential Care Unit services (Block B) were invited in June 2015. On 5 January 2016 an official in Dr Cortes’ office advised that the proposal put forward by Grand Home Care had been successful.”
“Whereas I for one will always wish the taxpayer is never overcharged perhaps Dr Cortes could explain what he meant by never agreeing to pay “over the odds” given he had a budget of £400,000 in 2015/16 and apparently a proposal was selected.”
Mr Clinton further asks Dr Cortes to either confirm or deny that the preferred supplier for the Dementia Residential Unit service is currently Grand Home Care.
If it has changed, he asks, why so at this late stage?
