GSD calls on the Govt to act on public service vacancies

The GSD has called on the Gibraltar Government to explain whether it intends to fill the 177.5 vacancies currently in the public service.

The Government advertised for AA posts just before the summer but “nothing appears to have happened,” the GSD said in a statement.

If the Government is considering introducing efficiencies by not filling all these vacancies then it should say so, the GSD added.

The GSD has further called on the Government to explain why there is so much long term acting in Senior posts.

These include the Director of Social Security, Director of Employment, Commissioner of Income Tax, the SO post at the Civil Status and Registration Department and the Principle Housing Officer, the GSD said.

“The GSLP-Liberals were elected into office in 2011 promising to end long term acting in Senior Posts,” the GSD said adding that long term acting on this scale “smacks of political hypocrisy”.
