Hooded crow makes first visit to the Rock

A hooded crow is currently in Gibraltar, having most likely arrived on the Rock via ship. It is thought that this is the first time the bird was found on the Rock.

The bird is common in the Mediterranean Sea east of Italy. However, some have been spotted in Catalonia and on the east coast of Spain.

Director of GOHNS, Dr Keith Bensusan, said that it was the first time this bird was spotted in Gibraltar, but noted that a few years ago he and some other locals did see one across the Strait in Morocco.

The gender of the bird cannot be determined as both the male and female of the species look alike. The age cannot be determined either.

Dr Bensusan said that it will be up to the bird itself as to what it will do next and this is something he cannot predict, especially as it will not find a mate here in Gibraltar.
