Licudi introduces Gibraltar lecture at Oxford Literary Festival

Gilbert Licudi, the Minister for Education, introduced the annual Gibraltar lecture at the Oxford Literary Festival this weekend where the lecture was given by Boyd Tonkin, an award-winning journalist and literary editor.

The Gibraltar Lecture is devoted to matters of major cultural, historical or international importance and is at the invitation of the Government of Gibraltar.

Mr Tonkin spoke about how Gibraltar has featured in literature and poetry over the years making references to James Joyce's Ulysses and other works by renowned authors like Colleridge and Thakeray.

In introducing the lecture, Mr Licudi extended an invitation to the audience to the fourth edition of the Gibunco Gibraltar International Literary Festival due to take place in October of this year.

The Festival is now one of the main highlights of Gibraltar's cultural calendar and is acquiring a growing international reputation with each successive edition.
