Long service and good conduct for Defence Fire officers

The Commander British Forces, Commodore Ian McGhie presented seven former Defence Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) officers with Long Service and Good Conduct (LS & GC) Medals.

Receiving their medals y were Deputy Senior Fire Officer Adrian Hernandez, Station Officer Clive Gillingwater, Station Officer Steve Morgan, Sub Officer Gavin Cockburn, Leading Fire Fighter Jarvis Davis, Fire Fighter John Brancato and Fire Fighter Ian Grech.

Commodore McGhie said: “I am truly honoured to present these Long Service and Good Conduct Medals today. I was particularly touched, on a personal level, that you requested I present them; that really means something to me.”

The LS & GC is awarded to honour individuals who have ‘rendered long and meritorious service as members of the Fire Brigade of the United Kingdom’. The qualifying period for receiving the medal is 20 years in either full or part-time service.

The individual must also be certified that their character and has been very good.

The DFRS was officially handed over to the Government of Gibraltar in October 2015 and subsequently designated the Gibraltar Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS).

“I’m delighted that we were able to complete the transfer of service to the Government of Gibraltar during my tenure. I know it was a long process from your point of view, but from what I have seen so far, the Airport Fire and Rescue Service continues to provide an excellent service. I was very happy with what you were doing before, and I’m very happy with what you do now,” said Commodore McGhie.
