The Mediterranean Vikings have emerged as the champions of the 2024 Dafabet Premier League, securing their victory by finishing at the top of the table with a superior Net Run Rate. This triumph has earned them a coveted spot in the 2025 European Cricket League, where they will compete against other top European teams.
The last weekend of the Gibraltar Premier League saw thrilling action and decisive matches. The Calpe Giants faced a heavy defeat at the hands of the Lathbury Lightning. The Lightning, continuing their impressive form, then defeated the Hardings Hurricanes with the loss of only one wicket in their second game of the day.
A critical showdown between the Lightning and the Mediterranean Vikings ensued. The Vikings struggled with the bat, posting a below-par score. However, their bowling attack turned the tide, securing a victory that temporarily put them at the top of the table. In the weekend’s final game, the Vikings faced the Hurricanes. In a must-win match, the Vikings bowled out the Hurricanes for just 85 runs and chased the target with the loss of only three wickets, reclaiming the top spot and securing their qualification for the European Cricket League.
A pivotal midweek game saw the Vikings defeat the Giants by nine wickets. This dominant performance lifted the Vikings back to the top of the table as the league approached its final stages.
Another notable match had the Pirates overcoming a late batting collapse to secure a victory against Rugby, winning with two wickets to spare after bowling Rugby out for 88.

Sloggers CC delivered a commanding performance against Tarik, winning by 63 runs, showcasing their strength as the season progressed.
In a tightly contested midweek match, the Pirates narrowly defeated last year’s champions, Bavaria, by six runs, highlighting the competitive nature of the league.
The T20 Midweek League opener saw Gamers CC beat the Rock Renegades by 21 runs, setting the tone for an exciting season.
Earlier in the season, the Calpe Giants continued their strong form from the previous year, scoring a massive total against the Hurricanes, with Pai scoring an impressive 178 off 77 balls. The Hurricanes’ response fell short, only managing 136/9, giving the Giants their first points of the 2024 tournament.
On opening day, the Vikings made a powerful statement by amassing a huge total in their 20 overs, led by Charles Packard’s explosive 151 off 68 deliveries. The Lathbury Lightning struggled in response, losing wickets regularly under pressure from Chris Batten and Kenroy Nestor. The Vikings claimed the points, setting the stage for their successful season.
Mediterranean Vikings will now turn their focus to the 2025 European Cricket League, where they will represent Gibraltar against Europe’s best teams.
