Meeting set for £300m questions

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, will host a meeting with Opposition members in order to discuss the £300 million investment secured on the back of six of Gibraltar’s housing estates.

Mr Picardo will meet with Shadow Public Finance Minister, Roy Clinton, and Independent MP Marlene Hassan Nahon on January 23 along with technical advisors.

Mr Picardo said: "I am very much looking forward to hosting this meeting with Opposition members Mr Clinton and Mrs Hassan Nahon and discussing with them the excellent terms of the £300m investment we have secured for Gibraltar.”

“The financial services community has been highly complimentary of the terms agreed in respect of this money, especially in the uncertain climate initially created by the result of the Brexit referendum.”

“I trust that outside of the Parliamentary fray it will be possible for this to be recognised by the members of the Opposition, whatever their publicly stated position may currently be and may remain."

In a statement Mr Clinton said: “Despite the delay in organising the meeting, I naturally welcome that a date has now been set to meet the Government’s technical advisors and I look forward to meeting them and finding out more about the terms of the £300 million loan.”
