Minister for Equality attends United Nations Commission on the Status of Women

The Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento attended the United Nations 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from all regions of the world will be attending the session.

The priority theme of CSW this year is ‘Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.’

A full programme of meetings and activities is scheduled. There are numerous side events on various topics that are relevant to the Ms Sacramento’s programme of work.

Of particular note was a seminar on the Gender Pay Gap whose speakers included Katrin Jakobsdottir, the Prime Minister of Iceland and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women.

Marlene Dalli Policy Development Officer at the Ministry of Equality accompanies Ms Sacramento.

She is also attending the CSW with the UK delegation which includes member of the House of Lords whom she meet at the offices of the UK Mission to the UN.
