Number of Covid-19 cases in Andalucia creeps up
There are 181 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Andalusia, with a further six test results pending, following 10 further localised outbreaks of the virus in the region.
These figures come a week after the “state of emergency” was officially lifted by Spain’s national government.
In the Campo, Algeciras has seen the number of cases remain at 23 following the death of a 78-year old man who was resident at a hostel earlier this month.
The biggest outbreak has been in Axarquia area in Malaga, where 91 cases were reported by the Department for Health and Families.
This area was one of the least affected during the height of the pandemic, but the recent outbreak is believed to be associated with a local Red Cross centre.
Another province badly affected by these new outbreaks has been Granada, where 47 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19.
While Malaga and Granada account for 80% of the cases from these 10 outbreaks, there have been further clusters reported in Cadiz, Almeria and Huelva.
