Planning permission for Lower Poca Roca and Eastern Beach Road not granted

Planning permission was refused for a four-house development at Lower Poca Roca in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve at Tuesday’s meeting of the Development and Planning Commission. Permission was also sought to demolish the existing houses on the property.

Objectors to the development addressed the commission. A couple who reside in Lower Bruce Farm spoke of their concerns regarding the sewage system and if it would be able to cope with additional properties at Lower Poca Roca. They also expressed concerns regarding the potable water and felt there could be a possibility of being left with a trickle of water as in the summer months there could be a water shortage once people start watering their gardens.

More cars seeking parking was also an issue for the couple.

Another objector spoke about the volume and height of the development and believed that it would “have a detrimental effect on the surrounding habitat.”

In addition, he said that the area of Poca Roca is very visible and “the concrete jungle would be seen from miles away in a green area”.
