Police warning on ‘firearms’ offences
Two local men were arrested this week in separate firearms incidents, both involving possession of BB guns.
Last Wednesday a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm. A search of his residence led to the seizure of a BB gun case, pellets associated with a BB gun and a radio transceiver. He has since been released on bail.
In a separate incident last Tuesday a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm. His residence was searched and BB gun type pellets were seized. He was later released on bail.
The Royal Gibraltar Police took this opportunity to remind the public possession of imitation firearms and BB guns is an offence.
“These weapons are capable of causing serious injury,” said an RGP spokesman.
“In addition such weapons can be easily confused by the public and police officers alike, who may believe them to be real firearms. This can have serious consequences.”
