Prince Edward and his wife Sophie have arrived in Gibraltar for their Royal visit following a five hour delay due to technical issues.

Technical issues on their commercial flight to Gibraltar, marred their plans for afternoon events including a walk on Main Street and a visit to an exhibition at the City Hall, which were cancelled on Tuesday.

Just after 7pm the couple landed at Gibraltar International Airport and were greeted on the runway by the Governor, Vice Admiral Sir David Steel and Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.

The couple, however, will continue with some scheduled events this evening including a gun salute from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment at RAF Gibraltar and a visit to the Nautilus Project.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex had been scheduled to arrive just after 2pm, but an hour in their flight returned to London, leaving officials tasked with organising their visit urgently reviewing their plans to adjust the schedule as necessary.

"Alternative arrangements are being made for Their Royal Highnesses’ arrival in Gibraltar later today and the programme will be adjusted accordingly,” the Office of the Governor said in a statement earlier this afternoon.

"Further information will be provided in due course."
