Prior Park’s computer focus will benefit other schools

Prior Park School Gibraltar will invest £150,000 on a new Creative Computer Lab and Make Space with “state of the art” equipment it will share with other schools.

These facilities will be used not only for teaching but also in the co-curricular programme enjoyed by all students at the school.

This will also be available to the public and students from other schools through a Career Talks Series and Science Week.

The school will be integrating Apple iMacs and equipment such as laser cutters and 3D printers.

Prior Park added it is the only local school to offer GCSE and A level Computer Science resulting in this investment.

The facilities will be opened up to students in other schools and members of the public launched by a Technology Week in November.

“Employment opportunities of the future will grow and grow with commercial sectors which utilize digital technologies,” said Headmaster Peter Watts.

“Prior Park Bath has been incredibly successful in leading the field by preparing its students for the world of the future, which will be dominated by digital technology. We, at Prior Park School Gibraltar, are committed to emulating this success and aim to be the leading school locally in educating our students for the digital technologies of the future.”

Mr Watts added any student interested in robots, artificial intelligence, electronic engineering or related areas such as biomechanical engineering should be excited by what the school will be offering as from September.

Prior Park School is also arranging and will be inviting other schools to join educational visits to an array of digital technological facilities which exist within Gibraltar, including satellite-tracking and control facilities, virtual and augmented reality as well as further examples of electronic engineering.

In addition expert speakers will be giving inspirational lectures at Prior Park School on the future of the digital world.

These lectures will also be open to pupils from all schools within Gibraltar.
