Professor Tilbury named a Cambridge Don

Professor Daniella Tilbury will be the first Gibraltarian to become an Honorary Fellow of St Catharine’s College at the University of Cambridge.
The Commissioner for Sustainable Development and former Vice-Chancellor at the University of Gibraltar was recognised for her contribution to science and society.
The ‘Don’ title is given to members of the University who have achieved at a very high level in their field, and includes former Masters and members of academic staff at the college, as well scientists and cultural icons.
Prof Tilbury will join renowned scientists such as Sir Peter Hirsch, Sir Terence English, Sir Alan Battersby as well as cultural icons such as Sir Ian Mckellen.

The nomination was formalised following her keynote address in Cambridge on International Women’s Day last March.
Three Cambridge Fellows supported the nomination which went through a confidential and blind international review process.
Prof Tilbury said she was “most surprised by the news”, adding that her experience in Cambridge was a formative one which shaped her outlook and academic convictions.
“It is thus an honour to accept a title and award that will undoubtedly strengthen my, as well as Gibraltar's, connections with Cambridge University,” she said.
The Fellowship will be conferred at a formal ceremony and dinner to be held at the University of Cambridge on September 28.
Becoming a 'Don' comes with responsibilities but also some privileges including the right to walk across the grass quads at St Catherine’s College.
