Rock Radio launches charity drive

Rock Radio Action is a new fundraising initiative that will see the radio station raise more than £25,000 for local charities this year.

The money will be raised through events, shows and challenges, with 40% of the final funds allocated to GibSams, another 40% going to the Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society.

The rest of the funds will be split among other worthy causes and projects suggested by the station’s listeners.

Station director Daniel Harrison said: “We knew we had an obligation to do more than just entertain but also to use our platform for the good of the community.”

“Rock Radio Action will raise vital funds for good causes by fully utilising the marketing opportunities we have available on air and online plus through our growing database of supporters and partners.”

“The people of Gibraltar are amazingly charitable and I have been so heartened that we have such a community,” Mr Harrison added.

“Rock Radio Action promises to be 100% open and transparent, with regular updates and a totaliser of funds raised so far available online.”

“Everyone will see how every penny will make a difference.”

As well as the Gibraltar Alzheimer’s & Dementia Society and GibSams, Rock Radio Action will also be working throughout the year to raise the profile of other local charities and action groups not only financially but with extra on-air activity, attending many charity events and promoting others through ‘The Guide’ feature.

GADS Chairperson Daphne Alcantara said GADS is “grateful” to Rock Radio for helping to shine a light on the work it does and she looks forward to supporting Rock Radio Action events throughout the year.

Marielou Guerrero, GibSams Founder and Chairman, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Rock Radio is going to be assisting GibSams this year with raising awareness and funds for the service we are providing to the community.”

“As a charity, we rely solely on donations and volunteers and we hope everyone will get support Rock Radio Action events.”
