Sacramento talks to students on women’s role in society
The Minister for Equality Samantha Sacramento addressed Year 12 students from both Westside and Bayside Schools yesterday on the subject of International Women’s Day.
She told the students about the importance of recognising the role of women in society and that women should be given the same opportunities as men, and vice versa.
“It was not,” she said, “a day to belittle men.”
Ms Sacramento told the students about her own journey, and how her desire to become a lawyer started as young as 10.
Giving an example of how as a woman she faced discriminating questions, she said, that when she entered the work force she was asked about her engagement. She said employers were afraid she would get married and have children and this would have an impact on the firm.
