Special Olympics
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia, and Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento, were present at yesterday’s opening of the Special Olympics. Accompanied by Denis Lafferty, Chairman of Special Olympics, they watched the 5-a-side football tournament between Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, Barbate and Algeciras.’
The 2018 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics also took place yesterday in conjunction with the Special Olympics National Games. The Torch Run route this year again took the Torch Runners along Devils Tower Road to Catalan Bay, Eastern Beach, the Ocean Village / New Marina complex, Casemates and along Main Street and onto Camp Bay via Rosia Road. They then returned back to the Victoria Stadium via the same route, where they handed over the ‘Flame of Hope’ to a Special Olympics Athlete for the official lighting of the Special Olympics cauldron declaring open the 2018 Special Olympics National Games.
