Speed limit drops on secondary roads in Spain

Spain yesterday reduced the speed limit on major rural and secondary roads from 100 to 90 kilometres per hour.

This measure took effect yesterday after authorities changed more than 2,700 road signs across the country.

The Spanish press reported that rural roads accounted for up to 80% of fatal road accidents over the past five years.

Last year, the death toll on rural roads was 877.
