Teachers learn computer-programming
University College London held an in-service day computer-programming course at the University of Gibraltar on Friday for 22 teachers from all schools based on the Rock.
Around 100 teachers applied for a position on the course, but these had to be whittled down to 22.
Lionel Gomez, education advisor, explained how this done.
He said: “There was preference to teachers who were already working in this area as IT coordinators or IT teachers, but what the in-service has been mainly about is very much about coding and programming languages and programming skills.”
“We may have given some preference, but we hope that teachers who don’t necessarily teach this as a subject will tap into this as well,” he added.
Conducting the course from UCL was Professor Stephen Hales, Rae Harbird and David White.
The UCL computer science department is ranked number one in England, said Mr Gomez.
