Witness appeal after fatal accident

Police appealed for witnesses this weekend following a fatal traffic accident in which a 50-year old Spanish woman lost her life.

The accident involved two Spanish-registered motorcycles and accorded at around 5.25pm on Saturday on Sir Herbert Miles Road near Catalan Gardens.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when one of the riders lost control of her motorcycle and fell to the ground and the other rider attempted to avoid her,” the Royal Gibraltar Police said in a statement.

Both women were taken to St Bernard’s hospital where Fatima Venegas Nogueria, a resident of Seville, was pronounced dead after prolonged resuscitation attempts by the staff and doctors at the Accident & Emergency Department.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have seen in the accident or its immediate aftermath, or were in the area at the time.

“We are particularly interested in speaking with driver of a locally registered vehicle, possibly red or burgundy in colour that may have been overtaken by one of the motorcycles either immediately before or at the time of the accident,” the RGP said.
