Youth Service marks Youth Work Week 2024, celebrating inclusivity and positive futures
The Gibraltar Youth Service celebrated Youth Work Week 2024 with a campaign promoting the theme “A Right to Youth Work for All” and highlighted its commitment to empowering young people through diverse programs and inclusive spaces, supported by professionally qualified youth workers and endorsed by Minister for Youth, Christian Santos.
The Gibraltar Youth Service recently celebrated Youth Work Week 2024 with this year’s theme, A Right to Youth Work for All – Delivering Positive Futures for Young People, reflecting the Youth Service’s commitment to inclusivity and the powerful impact of youth work in shaping the lives of young people, said a statement from the Government.
To amplify this message, the Youth Service launched a social media campaign under the hashtags #YWW24 and #ArtofYouthWork.
“At the heart of this initiative is the dedicated team of professionally qualified youth and community workers, each holding a JNC licence to practise and guided by the National Youth Agency (NYA) which sets national standards that ensures Gibraltar aligns with the highest UK practices,” said the statement.
“Our youth workers’ passion and expertise encourage young people to broaden their horizons, build resilience and pursue their aspirations.”
The four youth clubs engage with a broad spectrum of young people, offering a wide-ranging social education programme that caters to varied interests and developmental needs and also traditional neighbourhood drop-in club sessions and exciting residential trips.
The clubs aim to be spaces where young people can grow, learn and embrace new experiences.
Additionally, initiatives like the Youth Café and The Zone, focused on those currently not in education, employment, or training (NEET), and provide inclusive environments for self-expression, skill-building and meaningful connection.
Mr Santos said he will “continue to champion our Youth Service and reiterate my commitment to support a Service which is so important in our community.”
“By creating safe inclusive spaces for young people to express themselves, grow and embrace new experiences we are preparing them with essential life skills that will serve them well into the future.”
“I wish to thank our Youth Workers who provide this and so much more.”
