£1m for Calpe House

The Calpe House Appeal has reached £1 million. Last night at a reception at the Med Rowing Club at which many of the players and supporters were present, Albert Poggio Vice Chairman of the Calpe House Trust, thanked the whole of Gibraltar for its commitment to the project.

The appeal was launched a year ago this month.

Mr Poggio confirmed the appeal had so far produced commitments of over £1 million and the charity was confident the commitment would be met.

This sum includes the three year commitment from corporate sponsors of £10,000 and the donations made to date by the general public plus all the fundraising.

This said Mr Poggio also included the donations and sponsorship prior to the appeal being made.

“It is just wonderful to see the support we have received. We the Trust have been overwhelmed at the massive support we have received and to see how everyone has got behind the appeal. It has been staggering to see so many people organise events and raise funds for the charity,” he said.

Mr Poggio was confident the appeal would go beyond a million by the time the new Calpe House was ready.

He also presented an update of the works and said the new Calpe House was on target to open next June.
