TG urges Govt to press on with Line Wall plan

Eyleen Gomez

Together Gibraltar has called on the Gibraltar Government to act on its plans to partly pedestrianise and beautify Line Wall Road “without delay”.

The party said it was “encouraged” by the Government’s plans for the area, which it said are necessary to tackle the climate emergency.

In a statement TG said Gibraltar is “riddled with pollution, traffic and construction” and this is decreasing the quality of life of its residents.

Together Gibraltar said it has always envisaged a Gibraltar that is cleaner, healthier and friendlier, and the reduction in car use is a fundamental part of this transformation.

TG said it was encouraged by the Government’s recently-released video depicting plans to beautify and part pedestrianise Line Wall Road.

The party believes that this plan alongside improvements in public transport routes and frequency has the potential to kickstart the “green transport revolution that Gibraltar needs”.

“Unfortunately and due to the erratic behaviour of the Government on this issue so far - improvising traffic restrictions only to scale them down days later - the party remains unsure about the plan’s actual implementation,” TG said.

“The Government has shown their conviction on environmental issues is very shaky and can rapidly descend in the priority list if issues arise, and TG would not like to see this project parked only to resurface at a greater cost months before the next election.”

“The party would like to remind the Government that this plan is necessary to tackle the climate emergency that they themselves announced in the previous legislature, and that these measures should be implemented with no delay.”
