Govt and Unite in talks over Care Agency grievances

Disgruntled Care Agency workers are in negotiations with the Gibraltar Government and say they are prepared for industrial action if their grievances are not addressed.

Unite members at the Care Agency were balloted last June and 96% voted for industrial action, the union revealed last week.

The Gibraltar Government said it was confident that all outstanding issues would be resolved but according to workers who spoke to this newspaper, frustration is mounting.

The workers – who described themselves as ‘a working party’ representative of all Care Agency sectors – asked for anonymity over concerns for their jobs.

But they insisted that discontent had been simmering in the background for the past two years over a list of demands that workers want met.

Frederick Martin, representing Unite the Union, told the Chronicle Unite is confident the concerns will be addressed.

But the working party made it clear that if their demands are not met or if negotiations are drawn-out, workers will proceed with industrial action.
