A Special Night of Dance

The Alameda Gardens Open Air Theatre saw a special one night production by the Gibraltar Academy of Dance paying tribute to the 200th anniversary of the Alameda Gardens.

‘Past, present and future’ on Wednesday night saw performances from Jordan Bautista, who trained at the English National Ballet school and now forms part of the company at the Polish National Ballet.

Zoe Bishop trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance and now completing a Masters with MapDance Company Chichester and works as a freelance dancer. Claire Olivero trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and will be joining MapDance Company to complete Masters at Chichester university. All three are at different stages in the dance careers.

The night attended by family and friends and many of the former pupils at the academy was also attended by the Governor Edward Davis, Culture Minister Steven Linares and Opposition member Edwin Reyes.

The evening saw a number dance of pieces from the three young dancers as well as a question and answer session with Christian Santos.

Each highlighted the high dance standard which exists on the Rock, the sacrifices dancers have to make in their careers and the need for a new theatre in Gibraltar in order to invite dance companies to perform locally.

The GIbraltar Academy of Dance Company also performed pieces from their production ‘Back to our Roots’ staged earlier this yerar in May. T

The evening brought together past students of the Academy who today form part of the adult classes.
