All set for international Backgammon championship
The Backgammon Association of Gibraltar recently held their qualifying tournament for the Gibraltar International Backgammon Championship.
The top four players in the tournament each won automatic and free entry into the Intermediate level of the International Tournament.
The winner of the competition is Stewart Stone, runner up was John Neish and semi finalists were Charlie Victor and Zaeed Reza Zarif.
The Gibraltar International Backgammon Championship will be held at the Caleta Hotel later this month.
Approximately 200 professional and some 50 intermediate level backgammon players have enrolled. The Backgammon Association of Gibraltar is encouraging as many local players as possible to enrol for the Championship.
The Association’s weekly meetings and rating matches start again this Wednesday, when the first doubles session will be held. This is planned to be played on a more regular basis in the future as it forms part of the European Nations competition system and also included in many International Backgammon Tournaments.
