As La Linea marks 150th anniversary, Franco sets out challenges

The effects of Brexit and the campaign to become an autonomous city will be some of the biggest challenges faced by La Linea in 2020.

As the city marks its 150th anniversary, mayor Juan Franco, is confident his city will be able to overcome these challenges.

On Brexit, Mr Franco announced that he will keep a close eye on the outcome of the technical meetings held between Spain and the United Kingdom in Madrid later this month.

On the four Memorandums of Understanding relating to Gibraltar, Mr Franco said: “We remain hopeful and remain contact with a delegation from the Government of Spain to see how these are addressed during the meetings.”

This month La Linea is also set to start launch its campaign to establish itself as an autonomous city. This featured in Mr Franco’s election manifesto ahead of the local elections.

In a statement to the press, Mr Franco said he also hopes that the new urban plan for La Linea will be given the go ahead for the development of the city.
