Unemployment in the Campo de Gibraltar fell in 2018 to the lowest level in a decade, but the year nevertheless closed with 31,004 people registered as out of work, according to the latest data from Spain’s Ministry for Employment and Social Security.

The data shows that there were 1,087 fewer people registered as unemployment in the Campo last year than in 2017.

In August, when the holiday season sees a surge in employment in the services sector, the unemployment figure dropped to 28,840, only to rise again toward the end of the year.

In La Linea, there were 8,326 people registered as being out of work at the end of the 2018, down 1.2% from the previous year.
