Changeover of regimental secretary

Maj (Rtd) Ernest ‘’Tito’’ Danino has been selected as the Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s new Regimental Secretary.

He was selected as after having served 26 years in the Regiment both as a Regular soldier and Reserve Officer. The Regimental Secretary is the principal staff officer to the Honorary Colonel and to the Regimental Council.

He also acts as the Honorary Colonel’s deputy.

He joined the Regiment in 1989 as a regular soldier and was commissioned in the reserves in 2000. He retired from the Regiment in 2016.

“I feel very honoured to be given this appointment as the Regiment has been one of the most important part of my professional life. It has given me stimulating work opportunities, plenty of travel, amazing friendships and numerous anecdotes. It also gave me the unique opportunity to serve my nation on an Operational tour which makes me immensely proud,” he said.

He takes over from Maj (Rtd) Freddie Pitto ED who has served as Regimental Secretary for 11 years.

“Tito has big shoes to fill as Freddie has been an outstanding Regimental Secretary who has providing invaluable assistance and advise to both current and previous Honorary Colonels and Commanding Officers,” said a statement from the Regimental Council.

“In addition, he has been instrumental in raising fund raising for Regimental Charities in particular The Royal Gibraltar Regiment Benevolent Fund, the refurbishment of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Association club premises as well as for the running of the Grand Battery House.”

The Honorary Colonel of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, Lt Col (Rtd) Francis Brancato OBE JP said: “I am delighted that Tito has accepted the position of Regimental Secretary, he has a wealth of military and local knowledge which will be a great asset to both the serving Regiment and the veteran cohort.”
