GFA appoints new head coach for national team

The Gibraltar FA has appointed Julio Ribas as the new Head Coach of the Gibraltar National Team.

Julio has an extensive career record which includes coaching the Oman national team during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers
as well as winning the national championship in his native Uruguay with CD Peñarol in 2003. He has also coached in Paraguay
with Nacional and in Italy with Venezia.

Julio achieved notable success locally as the Head Coach of Lincoln Red Imps FC, winning the domestic league title and cup
as well as the Pepe Reyes Cup.

"But perhaps his biggest achievement in the minds of Gibraltarian football fans was the 1-0 victory over Celtic in the first leg of the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Champions League in 2016," the GFA said in a statement.

Julio has signed a contract with the GFA until 2021 which will see him lead the National Team through two UEFA Nations League cycles in 2018 and 2020, the UEFA EURO 2020 European Qualifiers and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
