Gibraltar gets new firefighter
Firefighter Jordan Hurtado has successfully completed the Firefighter Foundation Development Programme at the fire service college in the UK.
Throughout the duration of this mentally and physically demanding course, Firefighter Hurtado was continuously assessed on all aspects of fire service activities, the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement.
Practical and theoretical exams included core skills, ladder and hose drills, Breathing Apparatus training (encompassing search and rescue techniques) and fire suppression. This latter subject included compartment fire behaviour training tactics such as recognising the signs and symptoms of developing fire events and mitigating the effects of these.
Additionally, the students were trained in Road Traffic Collisions which involves the release of persons trapped in a crashed vehicle and subsequently applying medical assistance if required.
“The Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service wishes Firefighter Jordan Hurtado a safe and prosperous career with the organisation.”
