The chief executive and Captain of the Port of Gibraltar, Commodore Bob Sanguinetti, has been elected to the board of the International Bunker Industry Association.

This move, announced at the association’s gala dinner in London on Monday, gives the Rock important presence among the key decision makers in this vital area of maritime business.

Albert Isola, the Minister for Shipping, attended the dinner as a VIP guest and welcomed the development.

“This was fantastic news for Bob Sanguinetti, the port, and for Gibraltar, placing us at the forefront of developments in the bunkering industry,” he said.

“It reflects the port's status as the region's principal bunker hub and its strong reputation across the global shipping community.”

A Gibraltar delegation comprising of some twenty members from the port community is currently in London to attend International Petroleum Week.

“This annual, high profile event attracts the senior figures from the oil and gas industry, providing an ideal opportunity for us to market the full range of services we provide at Gibraltar, and to discuss how we can best support the international shipping community,” Mr Sanguinetti said.
