Gibraltar NASUWT sets out election wish list

Gibraltar teacher’s union NASUWT has outlined its wish list for the upcoming general elections, requesting education to be ‘taken out’ of the party-political arena.

Set out in a three page wish list, the union is calling on the next Government hold monthly meetings and create a future plan for the Department of Education.

The union would like to see “all aspects” of Education formalised acts, regulations and policies, as well as an advisory committee on all curriculum matters.

Adequate numbers of support staff across the schools and a structured training programme was also on the wish list.

The union would like to see computing become a core subject in schools in recognition of the “importance of this subject in Gibraltar’s education system”.

NASUWT would like to see a health and safety officer employed for the Department of Education and basic health and safety awareness training for all staff.

Further requests include an accountability policy, benchmarking Gibraltar in comparison against other similar jurisdictions and a review of current examinations.
