Gibraltar to avoid incoming heatwave

Temperatures in Spain are set to soar in the next few days but Steph Ball, a meteorologist at Meteo Gib, advised that Gibraltar is not expected to come under this heatwave.

“Spain sees heatwave conditions start to build from today [Wednesday] and the first heatwave for them of the year, with the next few days seeing temperatures soaring particularly for inland areas and which could come near to record levels. Spain record is 47.3C in July 2017,” she said.

“I am always careful to point out that Gibraltar is not expecting to come under this heatwave with mainly Easterly winds/ Levanter keeping temperatures mainly nearer average compared to the soaring temperatures inland, although we will experience some very uncomfortable and muggy conditions especially at night.”

She added that the forecast shows that on Monday as the flow tries to turn Westerly Gibraltar could see temperatures climb in to the low 30Cs.

“It’s probably important with the holidays to advise people heading into Spain over the next few days to take note of the heat warnings and stay hydrated,” she said.
