Girls football hits right note

There were positive reactions following last weeks Gibraltar FA summer camp with many youngsters indicating their intentions to continue with the sport.
Among one of the programmed events is the new FIFA/Disney initiative which is expected to kick off in October. Already up a number of coaches have undergone training under this programme which is expected to be launched within the coming weeks.
Alongside the fun Friday’s, academy and girls sessions, alongside the juniors, youth, women’s Futsal and domestic leagues offering opportunities Gibraltar’s women’s football is also expected to play a number of internationals in the coming months on home soil.

Fun Fridays – Fridays 5-6pm (starts Friday 24th September)
Age: 4-11 (girls only)
Price: Free
The sessions take place on pitch 3&4 at the Victoria Stadium and use fun games to work on basic football skills as well as fundamental movement skills.

Gibraltar FA Academy – Wednesdays 4:30-6pm and Sundays 9:30-11am (starts Sunday 26thSeptember)
Age: Children in Reception and Year 1 from September 2021 (boys and girls)
Price: £50 a year (includes kit and other GFA accessories)
Brand new for the 21/22 season, the academy replaces the youth league for children of those ages. Instead, children come to sessions by Gibraltar FA coaches to learn football skills, fundamental movement skills, play matches and have fun.

GFA Girls Teams – training day dependent on age group (usually Wednesday or Thursday 6-7pm) and weekend matches
Age: Year 2 – Year 8 (6-13 year old) – girls only but matches against mixed teams
Price: Free
Girls’ teams that play in the Gibraltar FA Youth League at weekends, all abilities welcome.

Club teams
Many clubs still have spaces available to play in mixed youth teams (year 2+). Let the Gibraltar FA women’s football manger know if you would like to be put in touch with them.
