Jyske Bank ‘trusted’ Marrache brothers, court told

Employees of Jyske Bank trusted Marrache & Co and were ‘naïve’ in their dealings with the law firm, the Supreme Court was told yesterday.
The evidence was heard during the second day of proceedings in a lawsuit brought by liquidators of the collapsed law firm, whose three senior figures – brothers Benjamin, Isaac and Solomon Marrache – were jailed for fraud.
Liquidators Edgar Lavarello and Adrian Hyde expect to recover $995,000, £2.7million and €3.8million. Millions more is being sought in interest.
Jyske Bank held client and office accounts for Marrache & Co for nine years.
But lawyers for Jyske Bank reject claims that the bank provided “dishonest assistance” to the Marrache brothers.
Tom Leech, QC, on behalf of Jyske Bank, claimed the bank’s employees were “naïve” as they “did not understand the implications of some of the transactions”.
