Long established members of the local community receive British citizenship

A ceremony at the Convent this week formally established the British citizenship of 20 people, some having lived locally for more than 30 years.

The citizenship certificates were presented by Deputy Governor Nick Pyle, with Chief Secretary Ernest Gomez giving an address to the crowd. Acting Head of Civil Status and Registration Dorian Reyes organised the proceedings.

Mr Gomez welcomed all those adopting Gibraltar as their home and reminded them that now they had the right to vote in local elections. He then congratulated all the recipients and their families.

Mr Pyle added that it was a great pleasure to present the citizenship certificates.

“As British citizens I know you will do your utmost to assure the future success of Gibraltar,” he told the citizens.

Proud friends and family members watched on as the group were presented with their certificates.

Mary Sene and Elizabeth Agnes Byrne who have lived and worked locally for over 30 years and was delighted to receive citizenship.
