Macaques at home in Scotland

Local macaque enthusiast Tommy Finlayson and his wife Rosalind recently paid a visit to Blair Drummond Safari Park in Scotland to see how the previous residents of the Rock have settled in.

Greeted by the park’s senior macaque keeper Craig Holmes, who had been in Gibraltar to transport the apes to Scotland, the couple were given an 'access unlimited', behind the scenes tour of the macaque indoor and outdoor enclosures.

On seeing the macaques Mr Finlayson instantly noticed how “lean they were”, he put this down to the fact that in Scotland they are not exposed to junk food and sugary items as they may have been exposed to in Gibraltar. He also noticed how their colour had changed from brown to a more silver grey.
