National Archives maps Gibraltar’s past

Over 100 physical maps and more than 3,000 digital maps form part of a new exhibition ‘Mapping Our Past’ that was officially opened yesterday evening by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia at the Fine Arts Gallery.

Dr Garcia paid tribute to Gibraltar’s archivist, past and present, for their contribution to the archives. He spoke of them contributing in a very “particular and special way”.

The present archivist Anthony Pitaluga who he said was taking the archives into the next century, and former archivist Tommy Finlayson (present at the event) who had contributed greatly to the archives during his tenure. Also on display are a number of items including The Gibraltar Chronicle of 1954.

The exhibition put together by Government Archives, Mr Pitaluga and his team will be on display until 11 November. The picture shows Government Archivist Mr Pitaluga showing the Deputy Chief Minister the displays.  Pic: Johnny Bugeja
