The University of Gibraltar yesterday hosted its annual Open Day in a bid to attract prospective students.

The Open Day saw members of the public enquire about studying at the University with a series of talks held outlining the different courses on offer.

Campus tours were also available from the ‘student experience team’ with the course tutors on hand to answer any questions.

The University is offering its first “home grown” undergraduate course in Business Administration which so far has attracted eight students of which two from abroad.

Other courses on offer included undergraduate Sport Management, a masters in Marine Science and Climate Change and special language courses.

“The beauty of this business degree is that we are offering placements for every year,” said Director of Professional Development and Short Courses Nadine Collado.

“We want to guarantee employability there are placements in the first year locally and in the second year there is a short placement that can be done internationally or locally and the third is a local placement.”

“The idea is to network and build relationships with employers.”

The Open Day also served as a ‘soft launch’ for the University’s new Europe Point Language School that will see courses delivered for various specifications including ‘Business English’.

The idea is to attract foreign people to the University who wish to learn English specifically for their sector.

Ms Collado added that the University is looking into providing a PGCE course next year, but will not be available for this academic year.

“We are working to ensure every year the University will get bigger with a broader choice of courses,” Ms Collado said.
