Philatelic Bureau issues commemorative First Day Cover Stamps of first day of Literary Festival

The Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau will be issuing a limited edition commemorative First Day Cover

set of stamps as part of the 2016 edition of the Gibunco Gibraltar International Literary Festival which begins this week.

The stamps, a thousand in total, will be individually numbered and feature an old print of the

Gibraltar Garrison Library and garden facing Town Range.

The image also shows a group of children around the monument to Queen Victoria, which used to be sited in the centre of the street before its modern day relocation to the Piazella.

The stamps will be issued on the day the festival begins - Thursday 20 October.

Minister for TourismSamantha Sacramento, welcomed the initiative as another complementary feature to promote the Literary Festival. “It is a wonderful idea to issue a

set of commemorative stamps every year to enhance the promotional aspects of the festival. Bringing on board the world of philately and collectors shows the resourcefulness that we have been able to muster in our efforts to support this flagship cultural event,” she said.

“Postage stamps are an excellent vehicle to promote both the event and Gibraltar as a tourist location. The Government is always looking at innovative ways to sell the Rock and this fulfils our aims in an attractive manner.”

Ms Sacramento said the Philatelic Bureau had done an excellent job and deserved to be praised for their vision and

hard work.

“We look forward to more of their First Day Covers in the years to come.”
