Police promotions confirmed

Police retirements have resulted in seven promotions within the ranks of Chief Inspector, Inspector and Sergeant, Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome has announced.

Chief Inspector Edgar Lopez, Inspector Malcolm Figueras, Inspector Albert Fernandez, Inspector Alex Enriles, Sergeant Stewart Finegan, Sergeant Darrell Alman and Sergeant Daniel Ruffle were promoted this month.

Beginning his career 17 years ago, Chief Inspector Edgar Lopez joined the Royal Gibraltar Police within the Operations Division as part of an Area Response Team. Later working as a traffic officer, he also served as a detective within the Crime and Protection Services Division.

Mr Lopez worked at the Criminal Investigation Department and Special Branch before returning to the Operations Division as an Inspector within the Neighbour Policing Unit. At the time of his promotion he was serving as the Executive Coordinator for the Gibraltar Coordinating Centre for Criminal Intelligence and Drugs.

Inspector Malcolm Figueras joined the RGP over 30 years ago and began in the Operations Division as an Area Response Team officer and a traffic officer. He later worked as a detective at the Crime and Protection Services Division within the Criminal Investigation Department and later the Drug Squad.

At the time of his promotion Mr Figueras was serving within the Traffic Unit.

Just under 20 years ago Inspector Albert Fernandez began work within the Operations Division as an Area Response Team officer and later as a traffic officer.

For several years he served as a detective at the Crime and Protective Services Division, within the Criminal Investigation Department and the Financial Crime Unit. He also joined the Neighbourhood Policing Unit before he was transferred to the Planning, Development and Support Division as one of the File Preparation Unit’s managers.

At the time of his promotion he was a member of the Criminal Justice Unit.

Inspector Alex Enriles promotion follows 10 years of service that began in an Area Response Team in the Operations Division. He then worked as a detective at the Crime and Protection Services Division in the Criminal Investigation Department and later the Financial Crime Unit.

Mr Enriles has served as a sergeant within the Neighbourhood Policing Unit, and at the time of his promotion, was the lead for Public Protection within the Crime and Protective Services Division.

Sergeant Stewart Finegan joined the RGP six years ago serving in the Operations Division with an Area Response Team and the Neighbourhood Policing Units.

At the time of his promotion he was a detective in the Criminal Investigation Department - a part of the Crime and Protective Services Division.

Six years ago Sergeant Darrell Alman began his service in an Area Response Team and then the Neighbourhood Policing Unit within the Operations Division.

He was later transferred to the Crime and Protective Services Division working as a detective within the Criminal Investigation Department. At the time of his promotion Mr Alman was serving as a detective within the Special Branch.

After serving with Thames Valley Police in the United Kingdom for 14 years Sergeant Daniel Ruffle joined the RGP two years ago.

At the time of his promotion Mr Ruffle was serving in one of the Area Response Teams within the Operations Division.
